Sensei Heather Fidyk

Sensei Heather is the head instructor for the South Calgary Wado Kai Karate Club. She began karate at the University of Alberta Wado Kai club in 1986 and earned her Shodan in 1990. Sensei Heather founded the St. Albert Wado Kai club and ran the Edmonton Riverbend Wado Kai club. She trained and competed in Japan with Sensei Endo in 1992/93. In 1994 she founded the South Calgary Wado Kai Karate club. She has trained in Brazil as a guest in 1998 and in Japan in 2000 & 2015. Sensei Heather was presented with her Rokudan in August 2013. She competed on the SWKKF National team from 2002 to 2006 with competitions in Canada, the US and Morocco. Manager and assistant coach of the Shintani Team 2012 - 2018. Treasurer, South Calgary club. President, Karate Alberta, Para Karate Coach for Karate Canada.

Sensei Darren is the co founder of the South Calgary Wado Kai Karate Club. He began karate at the University Of Alberta Wado Kai club in 1989 and earned his Shodan in 1992. Sensei Darren co founded the St. Albert Wado club and taught at the Edmonton Riverbend club. He trained in Japan with Sensei Endo in 1992/93. Sensei Frank currently runs the WIC youth program and heads up the Shindo program for the club. Sensei Frank is also the President of the Board of Directors for the South Calgary club and a member of the SWKKF Shindo Committee. Sensei Frank earned his Yodan rank in Shindo in February 2019.

He is an active member of the Shindo program and the SWKKF Shindo Committee. Sensei Ray earned his Yodan rank in Shindo in February 2019.

He competed in Italy in 2011, Toronto Open 2013, Commonwealth Karate Championship, Montreal, 2013. He is a member of the Karate Alberta provincial team, currently trains in Cochrane.

Sensei Heather and her family have relocated to their home province of Nova Scotia and runs the Para program for Karate Nova Scotia.

Competed: WKF World Karate Championships in 2014 Bremen, Germany (participant), Silver medalist in 2016, Linz, Austria, Bronze medalist in 2018, Madrid, Spain. WKF Pan-American Championships in 2017 Silver medalist, Curacao, Silver medalist in 2018, Santiago, Chile. She has also competed in Japan, Ireland and the US. She is a member of the Shintani Team, Karate Alberta Team and a Para-Karate Canada Team.

She has competed in Canada, USA, and Italy. Won Bronze in Kumite and 5th in Kata at Canada Winter Games 2023.

Sensei Lyle Muenchrath Yodan (1949-2013)

Sensei Lyle began karate at age 39; he earned his Shodan in 1994 and was graded to the rank of Yodan in 2007. Sensei Lyle was an integral part of the start up of the South Calgary Karate club in 1995 and pinnacle in the many successes of the club, the tournaments, the Black Belt gradings and most importantly the success of students who are now high belts and Black Belts. He has served as the only President of the South Calgary Board of Directors since 1995.
